Jesus introduced to us the concept of paternity in a different light. He told Nicodemus, it’s possible for one to have a particular biological paternity and have another spiritual paternity. While God can be the father of certain people, Satan can also be the father of certain people. Jesus was inferring in John 3:3 that spiritual paternity matters above biological paternity. Nicodemus was confused then as some are today by the concept of spiritual paternity as against that of biological paternity but Jesus explained that in His being lifted up, a connection to God, His father is revealed. Jesus knew that he had to die for the Holy Spirit to come by whom the Son of God would be multiplied into sons of God. The enemy thought that killing Jesus would put an end to salvation by Him but didn’t know it will trigger the release of the Holy Ghost. An evidence of the love of God is that he calls us His children. Another evidence is that He gave us His only begotten Son by sacrificing Him on the cross in our place. A further evidence is His giving us the Holy Spirit that bears witness with our spirit that we are His children. God, the Father in the parable of the prodigal son ran towards His son that was lost after seeing Him from afar off, heading back in His direction. Head back towards God and He will run to you and shower His love on you. After all, He’s your father.
